Custom Pet Portraits

There is no better way to remember your cherished pet forever then a beautiful re-creation on paper.
Email me to inquire about commission work.

Pets have always made up the majority of my commission work. I find pets such as dogs and cats to be very enjoyable subjects to re-create with a pencil. Although, I do love to explore new subject matter and I accept a wide range of requests. One might say that pets have been sort of my specialty however. Perhaps what draws me to pet portraits is that I'm able to give more to my clients than just a piece of art and give them something to cherish for a lifetime and maybe even pass on. I strive to bring out the individual personalities and distinct features in each of the pets that I do. I always approach each drawing with careful planning and delicate measures to ensure that I capture each pet as best as I can with respect to with what each particular client wants. Remember that I am always up for new challenges as well, so don't hesitate to request non-animal related custom artwork.

I use the highest quality materials available for my custom pet portraits. Each pet portrait is done on 1/8” thick drawing board and sprayed with a fixative upon finish to prevent smudging and preserve the quality of the artwork for years to come.

But why choose me?
I challenge myself every time to try and capture the true character in each pet that I draw. I want to be sure that my portraits accurately replicate the pet I am doing. I take every precaution so that I know my clients will be getting an portrait of their own pet, and not just one with similarities. I put in hours doing meticulous work in areas such as the eyes. I also include any type of background in the portrait the client wishes me to do and am always willing to work with them to help come up with the best possible results for their custom pet portrait.

The Process
When a client commissions me for their pet, I ask them to send me a somewhat quality photo of their dog, cat, or other pet. The better the photo of the pet is, the better the portrait will most likely be. The pet in the photo should be posing similar to how you would like it drawn as well as be in a natural lighting type of setting. In other words, a nice photo of an upright dog in the backyard is a lot better than of a dog stretched out on the sofa inside. For other types of commission work such as when a client requests a wildlife scene or maybe a completely unrelated subject, photo references provided by the clients are accepted, but not always required in certain cases. After I receive the photos (either through email or postage) I put the client on my waitlist. Waitlist time is usually not very long. Typically it will take me 3-4 weeks to finish a commission request, but sometimes I can be backed up for up to 3 months. Upon finishing, I have the client review the drawing and pay me though a Paypal online checkout.

Custom Pet Portrait Pricing

Single subject with background of your choice:
-8"x10" - $125.00 US
-11"x14" - $250.00 US

If you purchase more than 1 from me at the same time, you get 10% off the total price (limited to 3 drawings). Prices vary with special requests; depending mostly on the complexity.

If you would like to request a larger size than 11"x14", then you can just email me and I will certainly consider it and work out a price. Any equivalent sizes to 11"x14" or smaller are always accepted. Shipping and Handling is $5.00 for 8x10’s and $8.00 for 11x14’s to anywhere in the lower 48 states. Worldwide rates vary with size.

So what about color?
My colored artworks are done with Acrylic paint. The process is much more complicated and time consuming than graphite, and so I typically charge 75% more.

Portraits
I now am accepting human portraits along with my pet and animal portraits. I use the same careful measures to capture and include every detail in my subject. A great deal of time is spent in areas such as the eyes and the rest of the facial features to create the most realistic appearance as possible.
If you are interested in having a portrait done, then the process is just the same as all my custom work.
